Welcome to BUJINKAN Manitoba
Located in Winnipeg, Manitoba [Canada], we are directly affiliated to the Bujinkan Hombu [Headquarters] in Noda-shi, Chiba-ken, Japan. We conduct our classes with the support and encouragement of Hatsumi-sensei while also enjoying, and appreciating, the fellowship of other Bujinkan practitioners and enthusiasts worldwide.
Our practice encompasses all aspects of the Bujinkan Dojo curriculum, which is drawn from nine classical martial traditions. Study includes such proficiencies as close quarter grappling and striking, swords and other edged weaponry, long and short staff, spear and halberd, chain and rope weapons, truncheon, arresting, restraint and unorthodox weaponry. Our approach melds these different aspects into a single, unified practice promoting improvisational adaptability in all contexts.
Beginner unarmed practice [Taijutsu] focuses on body management, falling/rolling skills, structure study and other movement forms. We then add fundamental striking, kicking, joint locks, throws and releases to those foundation skills.
Beginner weapons practice begins with sword [Bikenjutsu], long staff [Bojutsu] and short staff [Hanbo]. These weapons provide an excellent framework for studying the other weapons disciplines associated with Bujinkan Budo.
Enrollment is ongoing, January through November each year. Before making contact we ask potential members to use the resources on this website to fully inform themselves: of the nature of our practice; of what they are getting themselves into commitment-wise; and, that certain cultural and historical elements are part and parcel of our practice.
